About
This film demonstrates the dangers of driving impaired. Many experts have found that driving while fatigued can be just as risky as driving while intoxicated. From 2018 to 2022, fatigue was a factor: in 24% of fatal accidents. in 24% of accidents that resulted in injury or death. We wanted to relate to students with cramming essays, exams and procrastination work. We wanted to raise awareness at the same time. #driversafe #awareness #impaireddriving

How it started
This project began with a side-angle car crash sequence. Our initial goal was to explore whether visual effects could be seamlessly integrated with live-action footage. After hours of setting up and refining a single scene and animation, we successfully produced a five-second crash shot. This success motivated us to build a narrative around it.

CGI/VFX Breakdown: How we shot the Crash Scene
We first parked the car diagonally in the garage so we could neatly hang a greenscreen next to it. We then used a smoke machine to smoke up the garage to give it the cinematic feel. 4 men shot: 1. Invisible Shard Thrower - someone to throw fake glass shards from outside the car into the passenger seat 2. Light-bar Man - Simulated the streetlights passing by 3. Videographer - Simultaed camera movement of a car crash scene 4. Actor - Acted being hit by a truck Then we created a fake crash simulation scene in blender. And combined it in post production with the raw clip

More
"We wanted to do something we never done before. USING CGI in our short films. We didn’t even know if it was possible. So we decided let’s try a car crash scene. We did the car crash shoot first and since it turned out well, we decided we would write a story AROUND it. Hope you enjoy the BTS" - Ethan Choi
